Bodegas Trenza
Invidious White Blend 2020
Reg. Price $16.99
Sale Price: $10.99
White Wine of the Month
I guess I’m making Spanish white wines the next big thing! The Borsao Chardonnay Macabeo blend last month went over very well so this month I am featuring a crisp, citrusy white blend. Thankfully we get some warm, sunny days in March to enjoy white wines like this one! Invidious is a blend from Bodegas Trenza that sources grapes from La Mancha in Spain. La Mancha is one of the largest growing regions in the world and almost half of the vineyards are dry farmed and organic. Bodegas Trenza was founded in 2004 by David Tofterup who has over 20 years of winemaking experience all over the globe. The grapes for the Invidious line are sourced from four different villages in La Mancha and they focus on indigenous grapes with some popular international varieties blended in. The Invidious white is a blend of 70% Viura, 20% Verdejo and 10% Sauvignon Blanc that has great weight and texture and intense citrus notes that brighten up the palate. Notes of citrus zest, peaches, golden apple and slight passion fruit make this a great wine to drink the entire summer! Enjoy this with white fish, sushi, grilled asparagus, fresh pesto dishes and grilled chicken. This is also great for groups! Any white wine drinker will love this so stock up for parties and book clubs!
Bodegas Sierra Salinas
“MO” Monastrell 2018
Reg. Price $13.99
Sale Price: $9.99
Red Wine of the Month
The Honoro Vera Monastrell in January was such a hit that I found another great Monastrell at a killer price! While the Honoro Vera Monastrell came from Jumilla which is a hot, slightly inland region the MO comes from Alicante which is right on the coast. The ocean slightly cools the vineyards and keeps the fruit from getting quite so ripe so the wine has more red fruit notes and a lighter body. Bodegas Sierra Salinas was founded in 2000 by the Castaño family and was sold in 2013 to the Miñano and Gómez families, owners of MGWine Group. Since the Miñano and Gómez families purchased the property they have been focusing on the health of the vineyards and are moving to organic viticulture and dry farming. In such a hot climate most wineries chose to irrigate but by transitioning to dry farming you are forcing the roots to grow incredibly deep and strong. Dry farmed vines produce a lot less than their showered counterparts but the fruit they do produce is concentrated and rich. The wine is fermented and aged in stainless steel so you get a good representation of the fruit and the wine is fresher and light on its feet! The MO is medium bodied and bursting with notes of plum, ripe raspberry, candied cherry and balanced baking spices. Drink this on cold nights with comfort food or grill on sunny days and enjoy!
Green Eyes
Gruner Veltliner 1L 2020
Reg. Price $17.99
Sale Price: $14.99
More people need to drink Gruner so here is a delicious, affordable Gruner for you to enjoy this month and forever. Gruner Veltliner is from Austria and is dry with light to medium body and has intense mineral notes amongst the lime zest, white pepper and snap pea aromas. The acid of the wine is great with food since it cuts through fat and adds liveliness to the meal. It is quaffable and easy to enjoy and you can make Gruner spritzes for hot days or when you want to drink something but not consume a lot of alcohol. The Green Eyes label has been around for quite some time but I think they really hit their stride in the last two years or so when the quality of the wine showed a marked improvement. Green Eyes is a wine under the “Love Over Money” label of Boutique Wine Importers who use a super secret producer in the area to make a good quality wine that they can sell for less than the producer’s labeled wines. Since Boutique only has one producer in Austria it didn’t take a rocket scientist to figure out that Hermann Moser was making it and I have always enjoyed Hermann Moser wines. For the Green Eyes the grapes are pressed whole cluster and the wine is fermented in temperature controlled stainless steel tanks. The finished wine is fresh and bursting with notes of wet stones, lemon rind, fresh snap pea and a slight pepper finish. If you like Pinot Gris get on the bandwagon and switch to Gruner!
Salcheto
Chianti Biskero 2020
Reg. Price $19.99
Sale Price: $13.99
I tasted this red just a couple of weeks ago and bought it on the spot! I couldn’t wait to get it in front of all of you. Salcheto is a very sustainability focused winery in Tuscany that is very tied in with tradition and respect of the land. “Salco” means willow tree in an ancient Tuscan dialect and Salcheto is the name of a stream that starts at the town of Montepulciano, winds through a valley and is lined with willow trees. Willow trees were incredibly important historically for winegrowers since the branches were used to tie and trellis the vines. The stream is the natural boundary of Salcheto’s vineyards which are all organic and biodynamic and they continue to plant willow trees on their land today. They strive to be carbon neutral and have made a bottle that uses less glass and is therefor lighter to ship. They make their own fertilizers by composting, they recycle all of their water and they conserve energy in their cellars among many, many more practices. The Chianti Biskero is a blend of 85% Sangiovese and 5% each Canaiolo, Mammolo, and Merlot and 40% of the wine is aged in large oak tonneaux for texture. The finished wine is so delicious and so drinkable, bursting with notes bing cherry, dried flowers, plum and subtle earthiness. I have a bottle on my desk to bring home tonight to go with grilled pork chops! Enjoy this with pizza, cheeses, stuffed mushrooms and more.

Mas des Bressades
Les Vignes De Mon Père 2019
Reg. Price $22.99

I have realized in my time here that southern France is largely overlooked. Anything south of the Rhone and not pink tends to sit and gather dust which is terribly sad because wines coming from those areas are astounding! Mas de Bressades is a producer that I’ve worked with and loved starting at the beginning of my career until the company who distributed it shut their doors. An importer that they worked with at the time all but disappeared, taking some incredible wines with them. Mas de Bressades is one of the only ones I’ve seen resurface and I am so glad to have it back! Mas de Bressades was founded in the Costières de Nîmes in 1960 by Roger Marès and is now run by his son Cyril. The Costières de Nîmes is like an extension of the Rhone since they grow a lot of the same grapes, the vineyards are also planted among the large rocks like in the Southern Rhone and the “mistral” wind still whips through the land. All of the Mas de Bressades wines are certified organic and I brought in some of the Rhone style blend for the shelf but this Cab blend is actually new to me! Cabernet and Syrah play so well together and this wine drinks like twice the price!
I can’t wait to explore these wines and more with you!
